Merry Barua is an activist, educator and author who has pioneered the Autism movement in India. She is the Director of Action For Autism at the National Centre for Autism. Merry writes, teaches, lobbies, trains, sensitizes, counsels and advocates. Her focus on ‘spreading the word’ and enabling individuals with autism and their families to empower themselves has led to a growth in services and the formation of empowered parent groups and, in particular, of parent-driven services. Merry is an Ashoka Fellow and has received national and international recognition for her work. Merry is parent to Neeraj, her son, who has autism.
